MD is a complete recordable/playback digital medium. Think of it
this way, MD does everything a tape recorder does and much much more--and
best of all it's digital! What's the big deal about MD being digital?
Unless you have realllllly sensitive hearing, MD sounds as good as CDs
but are quite a bit smaller. MD is not here to replace CDs, but it
gives you the freedom play music while storing your CDs in a safe place.
Here's a few little features that MD has.
Ability to title any track with up to 255characters
ability to move any track to any location on the mini disc
can record direct digital information via fiber optics, or record analog
discs are very convenient to carry
ability to record your own personal mix
MDs are protected by their own case--no more worries about scratching
MD portables are barely bigger than the MDs themselves!
can "copy" songs or CDs from friends onto your own MD and never have to
buy the CD
can change the "track marks" on the MD, so you can change the beginning
and end of a song.
they never skip. I've had mine since 4/99 and tried to make mine
skip... it didn't work. (great for jogging, etc.) Why don't
they skip? the players read magnetic digital information, instead
of optical information. (optics rely solely on lasers and are affected
by angle and jitter.)
